Face Full of Chainlink

This past tuesday I had gathered the troops as we went to go play some good old fashion polo. This was the day that the photographer was coming to shoot some photos. The best part was that we had an awesome turn out too. As we got done with our first game the photographer (Ray) said that he would like to play. You think after watching. For a very intense and well played game that he would get the jist of it and he did.

I allowed ray to borrow my bike as I tried to play my first game on a fixed gear. I had let him know that u need to really grip onto the breaks in order to make it stop. So Ray was starting to get the hang of it and we had to tell him to go tap out a few times when he placed his foot down but for a begginer he wasn’t so bad.

Well about what would have been half way through the match ray and I had a 2 on 1 breakaway I was carrying the ball down court and shuffled it between the opponents frame to Ray who was coming in hot on it! He swung the mallet and missed the goal (expected for a person of his skills) but what wasn’t expected was that he hit the wall and hard. We have all seen our fair shares of wall collisions so our first reaction was that he was fine. When he turned around is when we saw the grand canyon of all cuts on his forehead. Blood gushing out as the red now stained our once gray court. Immediatly we grabed the first aid kit but some goz on his wound and rushed him to the hospital.
Long story short Ray now has 47 stitches in his head. He took the hit like a champ didn’t black out or have a concussion. So that’s the good news the bad news is that now I have to see if I can get my front rim trued or if it is a lost cause.

Moral of the story. ALWAYS wear ur brain bucket!

CRANK (not the drug)

Even though playing polo can have drug like symptoms ( addiction, cravings, anger, pushing, shoving, yelling, screaming for some one to pass the ball) doesn’t mean thats what I am talking about.

My crank is fine its more or less my bottom bracket which is really truly upsetting. Not only is my bike meant for polo but its mean for commuting around town.

I am riding to school today and for some reason I know my pedal strokes don’t feel as rhythmic or fluid. I look down at my feet and when my left pedal is in the down position the pedal is at a 45 degree angle. ( normally it is suppose to be at a 90 degree angle. This is making it very hard to push. I know the bike is old and stuff is suppose to be replaced but this bottom bracket is the biggest POS that I have ever seen.

WHY MUST I ALWAYS HAVE TO STRUGGLE MAKE THINGS WORK FOR ME!

I need to throw some hits and smack a little orange ball around.  Let me know if your in. Also if you have another bike for me to use.

This is the month that represents men and everything they stand for. The health, the beard the manliness. This is what we work so hard for. Not only is it the promotion of how awesome your stash and beard is, but also for awareness men’s health and prostate cancer.  This is why I bought this Movember cycling cap to help support and promote just exactly why its great to be a man.

It may be a hairy ride but at  least it is worth it!

Rain Rain go away I wanna play polo today

So weather seems to place a damper on a lot of outdoor events in Grand Junction Colorado. Usually I would say its no big deal we will play through it like men but when you risk starting to slide into the wall because their is so much water on the court is when it becomes a little sketchy. This is one thing that I never want to see happen is people getting hurt.

Rain Today Tonight Tomorrow
Showers / Wind Partly Cloudy Mostly Sunny

37°F 42° 26° 43°
Feels Like: 28°

High Low High

So all I am asking is that what do you do to pass the time when polo is a no go?

Lost and Confused?

I know these past 2 weeks I haven’t been keeping up on my post so much but there has been a few new developments in Go Bike Polo.

1. We are now recognized by the League of Bike Polo ( not to be confused with the league of evil) as an actually club out of Grand Junction Colorado.

2. We have been creating a ton of side material  Videos, blog posts, podcast materials and a lot of bike hacks that will be coming to the site soon.

3. For those who have been worried sick about Ray (Face Full of Chain Link) he is doing fine now and is ready to hop back onto a bike and tear it up with the rest of us.

If you have been lost and confused on where we have gone never fear we are still around and kicking but in the mean time enjoy this nasty wipeout that Mr. Do had filmed.
