This past tuesday I had gathered the troops as we went to go play some good old fashion polo. This was the day that the photographer was coming to shoot some photos. The best part was that we had an awesome turn out too. As we got done with our first game the photographer (Ray) said that he would like to play. You think after watching. For a very intense and well played game that he would get the jist of it and he did.
I allowed ray to borrow my bike as I tried to play my first game on a fixed gear. I had let him know that u need to really grip onto the breaks in order to make it stop. So Ray was starting to get the hang of it and we had to tell him to go tap out a few times when he placed his foot down but for a begginer he wasn’t so bad.
Well about what would have been half way through the match ray and I had a 2 on 1 breakaway I was carrying the ball down court and shuffled it between the opponents frame to Ray who was coming in hot on it! He swung the mallet and missed the goal (expected for a person of his skills) but what wasn’t expected was that he hit the wall and hard. We have all seen our fair shares of wall collisions so our first reaction was that he was fine. When he turned around is when we saw the grand canyon of all cuts on his forehead. Blood gushing out as the red now stained our once gray court. Immediatly we grabed the first aid kit but some goz on his wound and rushed him to the hospital.
Long story short Ray now has 47 stitches in his head. He took the hit like a champ didn’t black out or have a concussion. So that’s the good news the bad news is that now I have to see if I can get my front rim trued or if it is a lost cause.
Moral of the story. ALWAYS wear ur brain bucket!
